From October 2024, the Employment (Allocation of Tips) Act requires employers to pass all tips, gratuities, and service charges to workers fairly and in full, without deductions. Tips paid through the payroll are subject to Income Tax and National Insurance. Cash tips received directly by staff are subject to Income Tax but not employer NI. Employers must keep a written tips policy and records of allocation.
