The Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) is a HMRC scheme that requires contractors to deduct money from subcontractor payments and pass it to HMRC as advance payments towards the subcontractor’s tax and National Insurance. Contractors must register for CIS, and subcontractors can also register to receive gross payments or reduced deductions.
